I guess the horn itself was made by Delco and had a GM part number. The mounting brackets for the horn and button were probably made by IH and, as is the case with most stamped sheet metal parts, had no part number showing.

So, simply going to a GM dealer and asking for a 6v horn, should suffice, correct?

It probably would except for a few small details.

1) GM made a bunch of different 6 volt horns.
2) They are probably all long since discontinued.
3) Even if they weren't, your GM parts man will act like you are from outer space if you say 6 volts.

You'll have to go to your local junk yard and look around. I found mine at the local ford experts back yard. I asked and he found one and gave it to me. He even gave me a starter push button for it. I put the button in one of the two mystery holes in the floor pan. The horn is an autolite, but works neat. I always get a chuckle from the parade crowds.

Does anyone know if an old fire truck/police siren could be run on a Cub? I know they are 6 volt, but is the battery large enough to handle it?

We had one of the old Federal mechanical sirens on a fire truck many many years ago. This one was one that had a 10 or 12 inch rotor on it. I think it pulled about 400 amps on startup. I know all the lights dimmed and the radio (tube type Motorola) wouldn't transmit while you were winding the siren up.
You might get away with one of the small 4" jobs.

The following was posted on the ATIS list by cmonson:

I was reading the other Cub site but am not signed in on it. I noticed there was some discussion about a horn for a Cub. I have bought several small 6 volt horns from JC Whitney. They carry them for the older Volkswagens and they fit easily into the engine compartment of most small tractors including the Cub. They also carry several different 6 volt coils including one that is hotter than the others. Just thought someone might like to know this.

JC Whitney still carries not only horns but several types of 6 volt coils too. They carry them in the Volkswagen catalog and in that section of the main catalog. Their small 6 volt Volkswagen horn is only $6.95 in the latest catalog.

Unfortunately, we do not have JC Whitney here in Canada.... maybe Canadian Tire might have one...

If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use duct tape.

All of my French built Cubs have factory horns and my yellow Industrial Cub also has a factory horn. The American and French horns, wiring and buttons are completely different.
