Fan Shroud

I have a 1962 regular Cub LoBoy-it has no fan shroud-did all Cubs have one? If so previous owner may have removed it?

All Cubs had shrouds as far as I know. Cant think of any circumstance that they wouldn`t have one except for whoever removed it didn`t want to go through the difficulty put it back on.

fan shroud

Postby Dan England » Mon Jan 31, 2005 9:31 pm

I have one cub which lacks the shroud. I suppose the shroud would cause a larger volume of air to be pulled through the radiator. I have not had a problem with overheating. Are there other reasons why a shroud is needed? Dan

I would think the other main reason for a shroud would be to save fingers.

are you bidding on a shroud on ebay? If you are I think we may be bidding against each other.

Ve9--- thanks looks like the shrouds on Ebay went up above my need !
Maybe I could trade some Hallicrafter stuff for a shroud.

Rudi,

You know, funny thing is, myself being a "HAM" and riding a "HOGG" I don't really even care for pigs.......OK that REALLY sucked, never mind :!:

Rvharris3,

Ah! the good old Hallicrafter days, I would guess some of the first REAL radios after the spark gap era. Thinking of the Hallicrafters makes me Remember almost 20 years ago, (when I was first licensed) my very first rig was a Swan 350 or better known as a Swan 3-drifty, along with the 6 meter version Swan 250 SSB. Hey I was even poorer back then, back when I was 20 years old and first starting out in the hobby.

Hey Hams, what about a "CUB-NET" or a "SPECIAL EVENT" station at one of the Cub shows? I can hear it now, "Cq Cq Cq, This is specail event station at Cub-fest N.A." Hummmmmm any takers?

I was trying to get Rudi back on the air, but then all hell broke out for him. I guess what we all need to do is go up and get ole Rudi back on the air and help him get his antenna back up in the air.

Back to the subject here. I do need a shroud too, ANYONE got an extra, they be willing to part with? CHEAP?

I used to like the old Hallicrafters stuff, well until I ended up being exposed to the complete Collins "S" line up in Alert. Kind of spoiled me a bit. I do have a couple of Heathkit 80 meter radios along with a couple AR88's and my twin Yaesu rigs - an FT-101 and a 101E. The 101 needs to have the mode switch replaced - it has a tiny short in it  :D Kind of shy on 2 meter stuff as coin is being used for Cubs instead of HAM stuff. Hopefully after I get over this medical thing, I will be able to get my beam back up.

It is a TH33JR and I need to get some replacement element to boom brackets from Texas.. so hopefully by the time I am fixed up, I can will have the needed stuff to fix me beam. Then it will just be the dipoles and the vertical. All small stuff, just takes some time.

As for the shrouds, they are available used and not just on e-Bay. Send an email query to:
John at JP Tractor Salvage
Tom at TM Tractor Parts
David at Chown Tractor Parts

If they don't have one in stock, as them to be put on a notify basis. As in as soon as you get one CALL ME! PLEASE! Works for me...

I have been sorta looking for a fan shroud too... but only because mine is a bit beat up.
Seems someone cut it on the top to get it out and repaired it with a piece of aluminum gutter hanger and some 1/4 - 20 screws.

It is the last piece to get done on the front of the machine before I put it back together and is now in the tank for the upper half to get the rust off.

Certainly not bad enough to spend much money on!

Mine had been cut on top also but someone did a pretty decent job of welding it back solid.

Possibly I should visit my friend with a welder?? Otherwise I have to rig something up to fix it back together. It was very tough to get the tiny rusted screws out of the 'fix'.
