Farmall Cub

I hear good things about the Case IH IronGuard and since I don't have a spray setup I'll be buying the rattle cans but I have a few questions about some of the other options, namely:
Tallmans AG Specialty Coatings
as in this stuff from farmall parts,


just wondering how it compares to the Case IH IronGuard cans or any other cans out there you may be able to suggest. Does Valpsar make a IH Cub Yellow in spray cans?

https://www.kimballmidwest.com/KMDefault.aspx I have used the IH Iron guard which I like and the Kimball Midwest paint.See what Kimball Midwest has, their rattle can paint covers so well and has a lot of solids in it for a really thick coat. I was really pleased with the coverage per can. Valspar didn't not hold it's gloss or shine and didn't cover well at all. Wasted more money on that paint than you could imagine.

so, apparently, Tallmans has been bought out by/merged with/or whatever with Van Sickle. Why they don't take the site down or redirect it is a mystery.

You may be able to buy a small compressor and spray gun for the difference in cost between gallon size paint and rattle cans. I have not rattle can painted a cub but the paint is thin so it will spray out of the can. I would expect 4-5 coats for a decent finish depending on the brand.

This appears to be alkyd paint which is 1950s and older technology and will fade is left in the sun and red in color.
For a work tractor that may be good enough.

Case Ironguard is alkyd enamel, likely acrylic modified so 1960s technology. Better fade resistance but still older style paint. Automotive paint is not much more expensive but better gloss and fade resistance. Up to you as to what you want and how much cash you want to spend.

I painted my Cub with Rust-oleum. I took the whole thing apart just about, A few things went to the sandblaster, but I cleaned all the grease and junk a piece at a time, Rattle can primer, had it re-assembled except fot the hood and fuel tank and tires and sprayed the whole thing with a wal-mart $25.00 spray gun. I painted the tank and hood seperately and did a little better job on that. I know it will fade in the sun, but if it's not working, it's in a air conditioned-heated garage.

The reason I went with Rust-Oleum is it's a cheap and easy touch up paint. I even bought a bag of cheap disposible brushes. I try to keep the hood and gas tank nice, but the rest gets scratches all the time. I'm very happy with the way it turned out.

I love the 460 implement blue from VanSickle. Old technology but the color is beautiful and for rough and tumble implements it is easy to touch up with a brush. I would never use it on a tractor. Too much effort just to have it fade.

I just knew that the Ag Specialty (Tallmans) was really Van Sickle IH Blue (by the distinctive smell). Yet, here are 2 differences I have noticed: 1) The Ag Specialty / IH Blue dries quicker ( and it's cheaper too) than the Van Sickle 460 Blue. 2) The Ag Specialty / IH Blue seems to flow on easier than Van Sickle's out of their own rattle can... 'Country'
