hydraulic problems

Postby Mac from NS » Sat Feb 12, 2005 3:34 am

hydraulic problems: I bought this cub last fall and the hydraulics
seem to work fine,
up and down smooth but I didn't lift
anything. It had a small leak where the top
pipe goes into the pump.I'm building a snowplow for it and fine the
hydraulics now has air in it so we fill it up with tractor
hydraulics and now the fluid is coming out
around the hydraulic cylinder ,have I put the wrong fluid in and did
something to it.

Hi Mac. Did you have the cylinder in the out position, and maybe filled the unit up completely and put the plug back in, and then cycled the cylinder to the closed position and the extra fluid needed someplace to go. I'm not the expert on what this did or where it comes out. There must be a breather in the system someplace and maybe that's where the fluid came out. Someone else will have to step in.

That is probable what happened.I hope I
didn't break something. The two pipes going into
the pump the top one is leaking could
a bad O ring on the back cause that.
Thanks everyone

Mac,

That would depend on where it's leaking. If it's leaking from the pump side of the flange then an "O" ring would most likely fix the leak. If it's leaking around the tube itself, then perhaps the joint would need to be repaired 8)

Hi Mac. If it was my tractor, I would get another manifold tube assembly. The smaller top tube is the pressure side and after you remove the manifold from the tractor, you'll either have to braize it or wire weld it, either repair will probably stick out like a sore thumb. My $.02

That answer is from a very accomplished welder. My neighbor is a welder too. He says that when i try to weld it is grapes and other times he says it looks like chicken (the part that fertilizes the garden)

The manifold on my 51' had a small fracture where the tube went into the flange by the pump. A welder buddy of mine checked it out and said it was originally silver soldered. He put a little silver solder in the area of the fracture and its been fine since (4 years ago). You would never know it had been repaired.
