What is the best plan when removing fluid from my rear tires. I have notice the valve stem hole is rusting. Should I dismount the tires, sandblast and prime the rims. Then next install new tubes when remounting tires??

My dad thinks if I just drain the tubes I will be ok, I think I need to go all the way with new paint and tubes, my fear is the calcium chloride will still be there unless it is throughly cleaned.

Jason, chances are if you just drain the tubes as they drain a little more will get back in around the valve area adding even more rust later on. Sounds like you plan to keep the tractor so I'd go ahead and change them out and do it right.

I remove the fluid, dismount the tire, clean rims thorughly and apply a rust killer and then repaint.

If the tubes are still in good condition, I would reuse them.

Once the tire and tube are dismounted. Fully drain the tube. Then partially refill the tube with tap water (couple gallon), slosh around, fully drain. Do this about 3 or 4 times times to rinse out the inside of the tube.

To fully drain the tube. Hang tube with valve stem on bottom. Let drain. This will leave several gallon of fluid in the bottom of the tube. Then simply turn the bottom half of the tub over/upside down, letting the remaining fluid drain out.

I would at a minimum replace the valve stem assembly (little insert and big screw in piece) since it's been in the calcium chloride and will most likely start leaking soon. They're not to expensive and are good insurance to have on hand.

If you're seeing rust damage, your tubes are leaking.

Probably a good idea to replace them.
