Governor Thrust Bearing Replacement

Postby mdtieszen » Thu Oct 27, 2011 8:46 pm

Still disassembling the '47 cub. The governor small spring was broken but the kind folks on this site quickly indicated where I could get one. Great site.

The small three-part thrust bearing on on internal governor shaft needed to be replaced as well. It is #43481D in the parts catalog. Ebay had one for $29 with shipping. Arriving today was NICE 5971JBF03. The NICE product may be easier to find and/or cheaper. So:

Farmall 43481D = NICE 5971JBF03

Hope this can help someone out in the future.

I have my governor apart too. I guess I should replace since it is apart. Mine is in three (3) pieces. I trust this is the way it is supposed to be?

I realize this is an old post, but would anyone know how you could cross the IH part number or the NICE part number to another brand bearing. Either that, or know where I could buy a NICE bearing. I've tried searching Google and haven't came up with very much. I'm looking at buying 8 or 10 of these and at $50 each on the Tractor Parts sites, it gets very expensive.

Will do, but just thought it would be good to have some on hand as they seem like they are hard to find other than the tractor parts suppliers.

I have had a new one in my spare parts drawer for 10 years or more. Make that nearer to 15 years. I was doing a complete end to end refurbish on one and ordered it along with all the seals and a couple bearings I knew I needed, and figured I might need the thrust bearing. Turned out the problem on that particular governor was the fingers that push against the bearing inside the housing was broken.
