When I researched for the Grosshart/Prewitt Post Hole Digger article (Red Power Magazine, 2011 NOV/DEC issue), I was given a brochure showing the Prewitt Conversion Unit:
Decided to hunt for one last week. Found a website listing the tractor salvage yards in Missouri with contact info. About 20 of them had emails. I sent emails on Friday and left work at noon. By the time I arrived home, a man who owns a tractor dealership in a nearby town had called/left a message. I called him back to discover that he not only had one, but he lives about 6 miles from me!
Came home with this on Saturday:
No identifying marks on it except this (looks like the state of Missouri outlining an "M"):
Pretty sure it is a Prewitt unit made in Pleasant Hill, MO during the '50s and '60s for use on a Farmall Cub and Grosshart Post Hole Digger. The man said it had been sitting in the tractor dealership's barn for over 30 years. Probably came on a trade-in and since it wasn't IH original equipment, was removed and shelved.
It was a good weekend.
This was the missing piece...

Re: Prewitt Conversion Unit
Looks like you did good. Don't know what you gave for it, but they normally sell in the $500 to $1000 range.

Re: Prewitt Conversion Unit
Have this one hanging on my wall - neighbor was cleaning out his shed. Had gotten it 25 years ago when he had a cub and was going to run a generator unit. Gave it to me in exchange for some work. Really never checked to see what brand it was?

Well, I'm not exactly "looking for that post hole digger." Already have one heading my way (in a month or so)...

Re: Prewitt Conversion Unit
Did any manufacturer other than Prewitt and Hub City build these conversion units for the Cub?
Thanks Bill

I know that Prewitt built their conversion unit specifically for the Farmall Cub; don't know about Hub City or anyone else.
