Replacing final drive axle seals

Hi guys:
I've been brousing this great information forum for about a year and have finally signed on as a user.

My cub is a 54' that I picked up about 10 years ago to mow lawn with.
I gave it an engine overhaul last year and have been restoring the rest of it little by little. The final drives and the brakes are the only things that I have not been into on this machine.

This weekend I plan to replace a leaking seal on the left rear axle.
I'll probably clean and paint the rims and discs while they are off.
I got the seals and gaskets from Columbia Tractor.

What can I expect when I start taking it apart?
From the manuals that I have it looks like the end cover on the inside comes off and then a castle nut and then ????? Will the axle come out after the nut is removed?

The axles are press fit.

Not 100% sure what stage you're at, but all we did to get the final drives off mine was unbolt the drawbar, pull the six bolts holding the final drive to the transmission housing, and it slid out. Dad and I replaced both seals, installed a different brake drum and new keyway, and slid 'er back together.

Too bad replacing the fender on the right side wasn't that easy. One bolt twisted off, and even though it was a through bolt, it wouldn't budge. Had to resort to the torch to heat up the housing a little bit.

As long as you have the finals off you might as well replace the seals in the transmission.
