Changing generator belt

Postby Bob McCarty » Sat Mar 05, 2005 7:43 pm

I've changed the fan belt before, but with the generator belt being shorter, it looks like there may be more involved in getting the new one on. Suggestions, directions, or tricks? Thanks, Bob

The generator belt goes on before the fan belt. The fan assembly will need to come off so the gen belt can be replaced.

Can be done slowly and cautiously so as not to damage radiator. Remove generator strap and lay to side, and remove the breather (gives more room to work). unbolt the radiator shroud. Loosen fan bolt so belt can be slipped off crank pulley. Then lift fan and shroud up and to the side. Change belt over the rear of the fan pulley, and reinstall everything.
