Is there a difference between the standard and the loboy on the cub 22 and the cub 22L sickle bar mower?

Yes, the brackets that mount the mower are shorter and the pto pulley is different

Brackets are different, PTO pulley is the same.

The front bracket or rear bracket or both? What leght for standard and what leght for loboy? I put the bar with the pulleys up to see what it looks like. The back bracket is about 12 1/2" down just past the center of the bottom pulley.
Here are some photos. This is a standard cub

Both front and back. The drive shaft is about 1.5 inches shorter on an L22 also.

Ok does anyone have the measurements so I can see which one I have?

I don't have measurements, but the one in your pictures is for a Lo-Boy. Also that is not the correct pulley on your pto for a 22.

Here is a link to TM's comparison pictures.

Thank you Arthur. I see by the photos on TM's site that it looks like I have an L-22. Since the drive shaft is 1.5" short i guess by even somehow changing the brackets I couldn't use this on my standard cub?
That's probably a mower pulley on the tractor. I just put it up on a 5 gallon bucket for height to see what it looked like and if it would line up. I have the proper pulley for the sickle bar mower.

Hi, this picture shows the two different pulleys for the 22 and L22, the L22 is shorter as you can see

A Cub-22 will not work on a Loboy, I have never heard of anyone trying to mount an L-22 to a standard Cub. I would think it should mount okay, but the angle on the pitman arm might end up being too severe. It would be an interesting experiment.

edit: Well, now that I am at home and can see the photobucket pictures (they block them where I work), it does mount up!

kirk-nj, how did you make out with the lo boy mower attaching to your cub tractor? I have the same situation. By changing my cub 22 pulley for a lo boy pulley I'm hoping the belts will line up. Let me know.

Thanks.

Unless you mow everything at 8" off the ground, an L22 mower is going to chatter something awful when mounted on a full-height Cub.

I had my lift linkages connected wrong on my Cub-22, so when I lifted it, the outer end popped up about 8" before the inside shoe came off the ground. When it did that, the thing would just about rattle the teeth out of your head!

You don't have a lot of leeway in the angle between the head and bar on these pitman mowers.

Question for Jim Becker: I read your article on the A18 highway mower. Why didn't IH build them all like that? The A18 was a pitman type mower that could operate at something like 30 degrees below horizontal, and 45 degrees above horizontal.

These are pics I am posting on behalf of Joe (RedBarnGardens). These are pics of his mower.

He wanted me to post two questions for him:

1. Will this setup work if I get a lo boy pulley?
2. Can I buy a cub 22 drive train which is 1.5 inches longer and swap it out?

I would say yes to his #1 question but I am unsure how to answer #2---I don't see the L22 mowers around here at all.

I am absolutely sure of #2. The answer is yes as long as you use a Cub-22 PTO pulley as well. Everything is the same between the Cub-22 and the L-22 other than the drive shaft assembly (shaft, tube, brackets, etc.), pto pulley, and supposedly the drag bar. The drag bar should work on both regardless. --Lee
