Can you use lacquer thinner to reduce the IH 2150 acrylic enamel? I must have three gollons of lacquer thinner around so I would like to use some of it up to paint the Hydraulic unit I bought.

NO. You need acrylic enamel thinner.

You can use lacquer thinner to thin the primer though. It is what I use and what was recommended as being as good but more cost effective than reducer. Reducer though has to be used for the paint - in the case of CaseIH Irongard 2150 - you can use the Dupont Centari brand - it is a good match and much cheaper than some of the other brands.

No. You can use acetone if you want something that works fast and costs less than reducer. It will be nearly all gone by the time the paint reaches the surface.

Use your lacquer thinner for cleaning your gun etc after painting.
You should always use the same brand (recommended) thinner as paint.
Same brand reducer and paint etc.... Read the Directions.
It isn't worth a few dollars to screw up a paint job after putting in a ton of hours on prep work to "be cheap" at the last minute.
You can always use lacquer thinner around the shop.

We buy lacquer thinner in 5 gallons cans around here. We use the cheap stuff for cleaning guns etc... and the good stuff for thinning Lacquer based primers.
Not all primers can be thinned with lacquer thinner. Read the directions and then Read the directions again.

Thanks for all the info! I wish the Case dealer wasn't so far away or I could get a gallon of Iron Clad reducer. In California paint products can't be sent by mail or by ground carriers. That's why I was looking for a substitute. Any suggestions.

Iron Gard and Centari are interchangeable for the reducer. Any UAP/NAPA Automotive Paint centre has it....

Hope this clears it up a bit more..

I am using the Centari reducer with the Iron Gard for the Cub-54 Grader and Leveling Blades.
