What a cub really needs!

Postby catttle » Thu Mar 17, 2005 6:23 pm

What a cub really needs is a 18-hp diesel, a 3 point hitch, a 52 inch mower deck, and power assist steering, so you could cut grass up hill while drinking a cold (beverage) and eating a bag of peanuts. If this were so there wouldn't be all these foreign mini tractors coming into the country. I would also own a new one right now. But, back to my question. Is there any kind of power upgrade for the cub. I like the cub size, but want super A power

Sounds like you want a Kubota or J.D. Compact.

If it had an 18 hp diesel, 3 point hitch, 52" deck, and power steering, it would probably be a foreign built mini or compact tractor.

The lack of power doesn`t bother me. Where I think Cub screwed up is not having a lower first gear ratio originally instead of having to add a gear reduction unit.
Then came Bronson

A properly restored engine does wonders for the power.

The right spark plugs and proper timing and carb adjustment do wonders.

I read somewhere that antique tractor power is roughly equal to a newer tractor with 1 1/2 times the power. A fresh Cub with good compression and maybe tweak the gov. up a tad you would be in that range. As for the gearing, I agree. Just about all the antique tractors lack in the gear range arena. Seems hard to believe the designers didn't think a creeper would be useful for some jobs.

:D :D An 18-hp diesel Cub, cutting grass up hill while drinking a cold beverage and eating a bag of peanuts. I think I might have a serious roll over

Jim, Does it lift OK when its full of dirt. I've got a 6ft pretty heavy duty blade that I tried behind the Cub one time. Just lifting it nearly pulled the front end off the ground. As for pulling any dirt with it, well it wasn't quite capable if you know what I mean.
