Lower radiator/steeering gear housing

Postby cherokeewarrior » Thu Mar 31, 2005 1:50 pm

MY recently restored 48 some time in the past had the lower radiator housing welded up after apparently freezing and busting. The welding is around the grille groove. This didnt appear to be a problem when the tractor was working and ugly. But upon reassembly after painting all kinds of fittament issues have arisen with the radiator and grille.not to mention the seal around the steering column is puking a small amount of antifreeze now.My question is this, I recently aquired a parts tractor that has a perfect lower housing on it . i want to change it but am not sure what to do about the VIN tag.Is it shady to swap them? Thanks for listening to my rants.Brian :)

Remove the tag from your good tractor and put it on the replacement casting. It is still the same tractor, it just has a replacement part. You can carefully pry the old tag off by taking your time and using a putty knife to raise the rivets.

I don't think its considered shady. Some folks here have ordered new replacement serial number tags that are being made by several different people.

Use a putty knife to remove the old rivets.
