We've finally joined the 21st century and got a digital camera. Now I have to make room in my head for new stuff.
This should be a pic of our 53 Cub.

looks like you've got it down right the first time. that cub looks well cared for, pretty straight and spent some time in the shed, under cover.
if you haven't done so, go on RUDI's site and get the free safety gas cap form. Navistar's still providing them.

Thanks gent. Looks like you CAN teach a middle aged dog new tricks.
The cub doesn't look real purty now. I started taking it apart to replace the seals in the engine (heavy leak at the crank in front). It's got no sheetmetal on it now & things like the starter and genny have been pulled. I need to finish making the stand to bolt to the torque tube before I split it.
Stay tuned. I'm sure I'll have questions!

Hi Dave
When you get your front seal it will come with a crank pully sleave. You have to use this or the seal won't seal. Also it has to go at least a 1/4" past the end of the pulley seal area. When I pulled mine apart whoever did it only put it even with the end of the pulley. And I was not prepared to drive it down to where it needed to go. This sleave is very thin like sheet metal and driving it down with a piece of flat stock does not work. Try to find a piece of pipe that fitts first

Confession time for me Cowboy... I'm having an honest to goodness mechanic do the seals for me. This fine gent has been working on Farmalls longer than I've been alive. I'm doing the split & delivering the engine. He'll fix er up & I'll put it back together. I've never been any further into an engine than replacing the cam in an MG B that I re-did about 10 years ago. Messing with the crank... eh, I'll let this guy do it.
Oh yeah. artc, I ordered the new cap about 2 months ago. Still waiting but I know that's the way it goes from reading the other posts about the replacement caps.
Thanks gents. Y'all make this board GRAND!

Cubguy,
Honestly, I don't know. They were on it when I picked it up last year. I never questioned the originality of the lights since I had read on this forum that there were 2 styles of headlights and these seemed to be the 'pan cake' or flat style. The rear light, which was in a cardboard box that also contained the battery box front and top and other small stuff, is a teardrop style housing with a rotary switch on it. I guess the switch selects Tail, Work, and maybe Off. I can't tell because it's frozen. Was the teardrop worklight used with both types of head lights or could that indicate changing the lights at some time?

I originally thought the pancake lights came out in 54 or 55 too but according to Jim Becker they came out on the 53's.
