Surging

Postby sviennadan » Tue Apr 05, 2005 8:10 pm

Well, I am stumped. When I start the tractor, it runs and sounds strong, but once it warms up, it starts to surge, and then will stall. I checked to make sure the sediment bowl screen was clear, and the the gas line wasn't clogged. I'm getting good fuel flow to the carb. What could the problem be?

Most likely the governor linkage to the carburetor needs to be adjusted.

looks like a vaccum problem in the gaz tank
try to open your gaz tank when the engine start to loose power.
if it recovers, the hole in the gaz cap which equilibrate the pressure is blown.

just an idea...
what makes my cub very rare is that it's the only one I've ever owned.

Sounds like a fuel supply problem. Start up with a full fuel bowl but supply can't keep up with demand. I always turn the gas off and run the carb dry and my engine acts the same just before it runs out of fuel.

Easy to check. Disconnect line at the carb and check for steady flow.

Hope it is this simple to correct.

Well, I pulled the gas line and have good flow, so that's not the problem. The first thing that I checked was the gas cap; pulled it while I was out in the field. No difference, so that's not the problem. Where would I find info on adjusting the governor, Carl? That's an area I haven't explored yet on this machine.

Have you checked your fuel level :?:

Also, your float could be interfering with the inside of the carb and not refilling........

Carl is right, get the slop out of the governor linkage. The set-up is in the owner's manual I think. But make sure all the linkage is tight first. Shims, loctite or JB weld will do the trick.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.
