International Yellow Paint

Postby ricky racer » Mon Aug 20, 2012 8:38 pm

I can't seem to find any yellow paint to match my Cub at TSC or Rural King. Any suggestions on where to look? I have an International dealer about 30 miles from here but it's kind of a pain to get to. I'd like to find some locally.

Rick:

If you have an automotive paint supply house in town, they can put Federal Yellow into a spray bomb. Does that help :?:

My nearest dealer is in Wisconsin (ok NH, but over 100 miles). Call before you go to make sure they have some in stock.... IronGuard is very good stuff.

Last time I bought any yellow was the Valspar Cub Cadet Yellow from TSC about a year ago. Since then, TSC has ceased to carry it and all Valspar paint. I like ACE brand Rust Stop Machine & Implement paint (made by Krylon, I think); used their International Blue with much success. I'm heading to the ACE hardware store tonight to see if they carry it (they don't carry all the colors). I'll let you know.

Of course, this will only be beneficial if, 1) ACE yellow is close to matching the shade you want, and 2) if you have an ACE Hardware store closer to you than 30 miles. :)

OK, here's the follow-up to my post above.

Went to Westlake ACE Hardware store last evening and bought a can of ACE Rust Stop Machine and Implement Paint. It's called School Bus Yellow. Big 15oz cans and adjustable spray nozzle that goes on smooth for the same price as a 12oz can ($4.98).

I took one of those grease guns I bought at an auction this summer and shot some paint on it, then held up the PTO shield I made and painted with Valspar Cub Cadet Yellow.

This one was in the shade:

This one's in the sunlight:

The School Bus Yellow appears to be a shade darker, but for me, it's close enough.

The only thing is this: I'm comparing it to Valspar's Cub Cadet Yellow, not IH Case Federal Yellow. Hope this helps.

That's about as close as you can get at $5 a can....

I stopped at a local Cub Cadet / Kubota dealer after work today to see if they had any Cub Cadet yellow paint. I saw a can on the self, grabbed it and went to the counter to pay. The guy rung it up and " that will be $18 please". I told him I didn't need it that bad so he said "Wait a minute" rung it up again and said "that will be $15 please". Again, I told him that I didn't need it that bad and left. I think Stanton has the fix that I am looking for. I'll stop somewhere tomorrow after work. Thanks for all the responses guys.

I tried a color match against the Oscar Mayer weinermobile this evening on the way back from mowing. Lo Boy has Ironguard Federal yellow (and 935 white), I think the bun is a shade or two lighter.

Cub Cadet paint is not IronGuard .... IronGuard should be around $10 a can.
