Looking at a '50 Cub

Been looking at a 1950 Cub with a few implements. He is asking well over $3,000.00 but I think we have come to an agreement for a substantially less number that we are both happy with. Let me know what you all think about the Cub and the implements. If you have an opinion on the value, that would be useful as well. I think I may have to sell some of the implements to fund this as I have 2 and 3 of each.....

History of the Cub - 1st owner bought it brand new. 2nd owner bought it a couple years ago for $2,500.00 and is now for sale.

I really don't know what model this is. Haven't found anything yet. Ideas??? Seems kinda big .. could this be for an A?



Has a depth control lever, spark arrester, touch control reservoir leaks a fair bit (will need a rebuild). Current owner say s it is in original condition but haven't seen it yet as it is about an hour and a half away from me. I don't see a lot of decals. Confirmed it was a '50 - SN - 112xxx.

That is a $1500-$1750 cub here in TN with those implements.

Probably bring $2000, or a bit more, here. The double plow is not a cub item, probably an "A". ED

Compression test engine before making any kind of deal. My guess is compression is low.

Problem areas: Electrical wiring. Tie rod bent. Hood has been repainted at one time. Battery box. All of the parts there for the implements? PTO pulley size and what's it for.

My guess is similar to Dales' considering all of the unknowns.

I figured that the two way mold board wasn't for a Cub. Too big. But came with it.

I originally figured that the Cub is probably worth to me sight unseen (as in personal visit) about $1,200.00 max with the implements. Then he tells me what he paid for it (has receipt) .. and I start feeling a little sheepish - figured maybe I was low-balling the price - but I felt comfortable with that guestimate at the moment. Yup, wheel weights are a plus, spark arrester is a tiny plus, battery box is a negative, bent tie rod is a negative, the leaking touch control reservoir is a negative, missing swath board/grass rod is a negative. Seat is a slight negative.

Pulley is for the Cub-22. Before I do anything, I will be going up for a drive to visit the guy.

I think the plow might be for a B or BN.

It's hard to tell from the pic but there seems to be some parts missing for the leveling blade. I emailed pics of mine so you can compare.

I added a pic of the blade.... kinda upside down but we get to see what is there. If I get this, then I will have all 3 versions of the blade including a duplicate at least once.... Course up here one never has too many Cubs with a blade on it.

I am not sure all the bars are there that go to the hydraulic unit to raise and lower it.

He paid too much. $1,800.00 tops, IF it runs decent. No boomerang shown for the blade. Nothing special about the spark arrester. I have one and all it does is gather carbon. If everything runs and works well AND it all had decent paint/repaint it might come close to his original $2,500.00. Everything looks like it sat outside and reflects in the value.

You are bang on. I told him that he paid abut $1,000.00 too much for it at the least and maybe a bit more. Will know when I hear it run and look for the usual cracks and welds. It is going to sit outside along with the implements for the foreseeable future unless I can bring him down to a reasonable figure. He is 75 and I don't want to take advantage of my elders but I don't believe that this Cub was worth a penny more than $1,200.00 including the Cub implements. The first PO that he bought it from was 90 ... and I believe that was part of the equation. At least I know I wasn't low balling him at all. To get it though at the present time the price would be basically what Ed quoted. If I actually can get it for much closer to what I am hoping to pay for it, the two way moldboard plow is going to be on the block...
