i replaced nearly all of fluids
-engine oil and filter change i used 30W
-hytran fluid change in hydraulic block
-transmission oil i used 80W
-steering gearbox oil change 80W
-greased all grease zerks; there are quite a few of them
i bought all fluids from the local CASEIH dealer so it should be good stuff. dealer told me that the engine oil used is the same regardless of outdoor temperature, but i read in the book that under 32 degrees it specs 20W and 10W in extreme cold. i am curious why the dealer told me that i use the same oil year round; do they not make 20W and 10W anymore and it is acceptable to use 30W year round or am i missing something here. next things on the list change final drive oil, coolant flush and fill; also have to inspect air cleaner. i have the donadson type aircleaner. i checked the oil in the aircleaner and it has oil in the bottom but i need to take the cartridge out and probably replace it. this old tractor is getting the proper service that it deserves.

im going to be using this tractor primarly for snow removal this winter and mowing in the spring; do i have to change oil grades like i do in my cub cadet 147? or can i run the same grade year round without any worry of engine damage

im starting to find out that these tractors have quite a few fluids that need to be changed. i think thats why some of them have so much worn out parts; neglect. my tractor is very mechanically fit and i itend to keep it that way even if it cost me a few bucks, fluid changes are allot cheaper then replacing worn out parts

If you are concerned about using 30W oil year round, use 10W30 instead. The air cleaner "cartridge" doesn't come out. You can remove the whole unit from the tractor and dip it in kerosene to clean it. Otherwise, just make sure to change the oil in the cup periodically.

I also run 10W-30W year round. Back when the Cubs were made and manuals written, multi grade oils weren't available. 10W-30W motor oil covers all temperature ranges recommended in the owners manual.

10W30 might be not have enough viscosity in summer temperatures, running 10w30 in 80 degree weather might lead to more oil consumption i know you shouldnt run multi-viscosity in a kohler small engine during the summer and the international C60 engine might be the same way

You have gotten good advice, it is up to you to decide what oil you use. I use what is on sale in the name brand oil, 10W30. The cub engine in not the same as a Kohler

A Kohler engine without a filter should run non-detergent oil, I believe. I don't know if I've ever seen a non-detergent multi viscosity oil.

I see you are in N Java NY ... down south a bit I run 30wt all year round, my Cubs are barn kept. Barn is unheated but insulated for the most part. Even with -30C no problems starting.

As David said, you have gotten good advise from those of us who have used our Cubs for many years some under very and I do mean very cold conditions. It is entirely up to you what you use in your engine. I use 30wt because all of my outdoor equipment calls for it/recommended by small engine mechanic who has serviced my B&S and Tecumseh engines for 2 decades.

Don't forget to check the fan hub oil. A good reading of the owners manual posted on the site will offer good direction on all the lube points.

already oiled that fan hub, i filled it with oil and spun the fan around so the hole was facing down to allow excess oil to drain out.

How about the distributor? it has a plug you pull out and install grease fitting.

...Hmmmn...The beginnings of a good demonstration at a CubFest, showing all of the maintenance items, lube points, etc. The owners manual shows all this but some need to visualize it on the tractor itself.

10-30 here year round. Never had an issue, summer or winter.
