The Last Year of the F Model Vertical Stack?

My young son asked me last night what year was the final year the F Cub came from the factory with a vertical exhaust.

I had to tell him I did not know but I would find out.

I searched the data base here for discussion about the subject but really only found old threads about Lo Boys having stacks which was a surprise to me as I thought the Lo Boy series were all grass burners having never seen an original with a stack, only a pieced together one on Craigslist. .

So with that said, anybody know for sure what year the vertical exhaust became an option and or eliminated as an option?

My young son thanks you in advance! He really wants to know!

Could you order a cub with a stack all the way through the end of production?

While we are on the subject of exhausts, were the lengths of steel pipe threaded into the manifolds cut to a uniform length from the factory or was that a day to day, month to month, or year to year change or have that many people replaced those pipes so many years ago they look original?

Were the manifold pipes even installed at the factory or where they screwed in at the dealer?

I have seen so many varying lengths of pipe it is hard to imagine so many were replaced.

Late 54 was the switch to underslung exhaust. Commonly known as the 55 model, same year the low boy came out

The pipe was 18"

Actually it isn't trivia at all. Those are the answers to your three questions. Short and to the point. :D

You are absolutely right. I had to quickly check the definition of trivia with Mr. Webster learning I mis used the word, my intent to mean "Fact" or "History"

Thank you for correcting me. I have a personal resolutions which is if I don't learn at least one new thing every day of my life, I am disappointed!

Today I got that out of the way before 0900, works for me.

Now remembering all 365 things every year is the challenge.

That makes perfect sense. My 51 which for the most part was original did have about 18" of pipe on it which I shortened to be more user friendly.

I imagine the seemingly excessive height was to get the fumes up away from the operator with many owners opting for a shorter stack to avoid low fixed objects.

That answers my question as to why there is such a variety of exhaust pipe length.
