I always think of an instance where I had a mud dauber nest in my intake pipe..Any obstruction like that can cause similar symptoms...

That would certainly duplicate a mis-adjusted choke shutter or extremely rich fuel/air mixture.

For you RV'ers, also a very common cause of holding tank odor retention.
