Farmall Cub

I received an email today from Miller tire saying the 400-12s are now available. Do not know if this is old news but I thought I'd put it out there.

Has anyone used Tire Town? Just currious as how they are, I have put this down as a stopping point when I go to Kansas over break.

Prices sound just too good to be true so I'm wondering what BUFFED TIRES means.
I've been dealing tires for around 34 years and only heard that terms used on out of round shaved passenger car type tires.
Even if they're shaved a bit at those prices it would be worth checking into.

I understood that term to mean that the manufacturers name had been buffed (light touch with a grinding wheel) off the sidewall as to not easily identify the brand name. I have seen that description somewhere and thought it might even be from Tire Town as I have been on that site before but can't find it there now.

That could also be right Scrivet, someone once tried to dump a load of Niro's off on us and they ended up being out or round Uniroyals with a few letters missing so they were sent back before unloaded.

Could turn out to be a heck of a deal, well worth checking in to anyway.

I bought a pair of rear tires for my Cub this summer from Tire Town and was quite pleased with my purchase.

I also got an email from Miller Tire about the new Firestones. Here is their response to my question about if the tires are made in the US.

The concept of BUFFED TIRES is explained right on the Tire Town website IIRC.

They are name brand tires with minor blemishes. These blemishes do not affect the quality or usability of the tire, it is just that they do not meet the manufacturer's standards. The name brands are "buffed" off with a machine so the tires become "no-name" tires with no warranties expressed or implied.

Someone mentioned out of round tires. For the speeds traveled by the Cub, it is highly unlikely that it could make any noticeable difference. Did you ever check a Cub front wheel for roundness with a dial indicator? I did, a good undamaged wheel. Over 1/8" of travel on the indicator- out of round. No problem on the Cub. Not good on a NASCAR track.
I was checking the Cub wheel as a standard for a badly rusted Cub front wheel I was repairing about 25 years ago. I knew that it was impractical- but it was a challenge. Welded as necessary to replace missing sections and places too thin to rebuild it and then ground the tire mounting surfaces on a homemade setup. Turned out to be true within 0.010. But MUCH too much work and time. That was before I knew of the vendors on this forum who offer good used wheels.
I doubt that precision was a priority in the manufacture of the wheels.

Looks like Tire Town is OUT OF STOCK on the blemished tires and the used tires for Cub tires.....all sizes. Only New rears at $200 ea. in stock.

Barnyard must have stocked up on the deals for all his Cubs!! haha

I bought a set of those for my demo cub about 10 years ago. The tractor was only used for show and sets on a truck at shows and in the barn all the time. Last summer the front firestones dry rotted so bad I had to let the air out of them to keep them from blowing out.I have another set that are about 16 years older. Been on my cub that I work for long time. they are real made in the USA firestones. No dry rot. set out all the time. still almost like new. I wouldnt waste my money on them junk china made firestones!
