My f-cub at one time had a mag on it. It now has a distributor on it the crank pulley has one mark on it for the mag. Do I time it to that mark? I think I read here that the pulley for the distributor had two marks. THANKS

Static time the ignition system to engine using the single mark.

Don, your right. The crank pulley has two marks on it. Turn the engine slowly with the crank, the first line you come to is, Ten degrees before top dead center. The next one is Top dead center. Set the timing to the Ten before top dead center.

The early pulleys, as you have found, had one notch. That marks TDC. Later ones, for battery ignition, had a second mark at 16 degrees advance. Static time your distributor to the TDC mark on your pulley.

If you want to verify that your centrifugal advance is working, you can stick a timing light on it and look at the pulley at fast idle. You should see the timing advanceD to the position where the second notch would be, which is around 3/4 of an inch from your existing notch. If you have a timing light that can be set for an advance, set it to 16 and use the TDC notch.
