If you're talking about this cup, there is no gasket required. If you have part of one, the previous owner may have added it. picture from TM Tractor

The oil should be thick enough to get the dust and dirt stick to it. There is not enough in there for it to slosh around with that baffle cup in the bottom.

IT SHOULD HAVE A GASKET ON IT THE GASKET STATES UP IN AIR CLEANER-------
--GET A MIRROR AND YOU CAN SEE IT UP IN AIR CLEANER------ THAT KEEPS IT FROM
SUCKING DIRTY AIR----I WOULD MAKE ONE AND PUT RUBBER CEMENT ON TOP SIDE
AND STICK IT UP IN AIR CLEANER-------

GOOD LUCK
LOMBARD---SC-----
MY $0.08--- OK---

The oil goes in part 9 not part #7.
Bob McCarty;s photo is Part #9 held up tight underneath by the bail and
there is no gasket to my knowledge.

There is no gasket on the oil cup. Any that you may have seen was added by a previous owner.

Any air/dirt that may be pulled in the joint will still be drawn up through the oil soaked mesh before it gets to the carb.

Owning two tractors with Donaldson air cleaners, both with seemingly factory installed, well adhered fiber gaskets, it is impossible to believe no gasket was ever produced or installed even though the parts manuals clearly indicate no gasket or seal should be present.

Too many tractors have these gaskets to assume they were field installations by previous owners, especially since they fit perfectly.

I have a theory this fiber like substance may have been a spray coating applied to the lip of the filter can at the time of manufacture, therefore not otherwise indicated in parts breakdowns.

Edit for spelling error...

I pulled off 5 this morning, 3 had no "gasket", 2 did. I checked a 6th that wasn't on a tractor, and it had a very clean metal surface. I'll admit that I didn't know there was one there, but it doesn't look like they were on all the oil baths. Maybe different suppliers? If you think it's needed, a thin O-ring might be an easier solution than trying to cut something to fit.
