rear wheel weights

Postby michigancub3 » Wed Apr 27, 2005 9:11 pm

Ok, I got my hydrualics working good again, changed the oil, it was just low. So, I cleaned up and painted a pair of rear weights that I picked up at a auction for twenty bucks. They were looking good till I tried to put them on. They must be for something else, maybe an A. They have 6701 DA cast into them. Does anyone know what they do fit? The bolt holes line up but they have a differant concave on the backside.

I believe those are "A" weights. Will probably fit several others too. You can use them as long as the bolt holes line up.

The bolts would have to be about six inches long the only part of the weight that touches the disk is the very outer edge. I thought about getting some longer bolts but figured that might want to distort the wheel disk by the time I tightened them up some.

Cut pipe to fit over the bolts and in length to use as bushings. That should cover you distortion concern.

A concern which is completely unfounded, by the way... You would have to tighten the bolts way tighter than necessary to distort the wheel centers. Frankly, I wouldn't worry about it; iron is iron.

6701 DA is the correct part # for 'A' weights. thats what mine has on it. i knew the rear rims were slightly different in the bolt mounting area, but i guess the centers are different too.

Hi MC3

I do not know if there is a IH dealer in or near Monroe. But the one I use is Dans in Adrian it is on M-52 about three miles south of US-223. I usually deal with Joe he is pretty up with antique equ. They keep a lot of cub parts in stock. I have gotten std rings, head gasket, radiator g, steering seal @ g, and many other thing the day I needed them.
Take care of your equipment and it will take care of you. 1964 cub. Farmall 100 and 130.

Yeh, twenty bucks for a clean pair didn't seem too bad at all. I have a Massy Ferguson 231 that I picked up some front weights for at a auction for $15 times the the stack of six so $90. If they were IH or John deere they would have been more yet. As for the A weights I just sat them to the side for now, I have another problem. Now that I have oil in the fan hub, it leaks bad out the back seal, Chasing all the little bullshit problems around is starting to get old. I think this is it though. :)

there is no back seal in the fan hub. Are you sure it just isn't over-full?

I was looking at the online parts drawings and didnt see a seal. its coming out around the shaft at the rear. I thought I added oil the right way. put it in with the hole horizontal then turned the hole to the bottom and let the oil drain off. the shaft seems tight in the hub, nice and smooth no wobble at all.
