TSC carb kits come with the wrong needle.

Needle on the left is the *correct* needle from TM. Needle from right is from a Tractor Supply kit.

The TSC needle seat will not tighten down in the carb body. Totally messes with the float height setting and leaks like a sieve.

Yep, that is one of the reasons we recommend against buying the TSC kits.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

On several occasions I have had customer supplied carb and ign kits that apparently were opened in the store and the contents mixed and matched.

That needle and cage should not have been in a cub kit.

If buying over the counter packaged items, it is always wise to make the best attempt to match the old with the new before leaving the store.

I believe Barnyard recently mentioned this when purchasing sediment bowl gaskets.

That needle and seat is included in every TSC Cub carb kit.

TSC is not a good place to buy parts for a cub , a good carb kit will cost you about $55 with shipping
and you will need to spend another $6 for a good bowl gasket then, I have found that Case/IH is the best place to get the bowl gasket and the kit from Steiner's
I believe this has been posted many times.

Should have told them I'll give you $5.00 for the rebuild kit cuz it's wrong and I'll have to pay $20 for the right needle elsewhere! Right Bill?

The only thing I would do is take the kit back and tell them is to give my money back because the kit does not do what it is supposed to do.

Another thing to remember is the high cost of the trips back and forth to the parts store trying to get what you need. It seems they have to order most everything. I am finding it's better to order over the internet and pay the shipping. I would like to buy local but it's not possible sometimes.

These generic carburetor kits have been worse than worthless for at least 15 years. Which partially explains why so many Cubs have carburetor issues. You often get what you pay for.

I guess I have been lucky. I have used three TSC kits on three different Cubs in the past 8 years without any problems.

I am confused. Not too long ago there was a big ruckus about using the Kohler rubber tipped needles. I haven't tried one but with the TSC seat as well and a float adjustment isn't that what some claimed was the gold standard?????????????

The TSC seat has a longer threaded end than the other one. I assume the problem here is that it bottoms out before the gasket seals.

Bill,

Not sure what rubber compound the Chinese use on the TSC needle tips, but they are very prone to sticking. Maybe it's the ethanol.

My business with TSC does not include anything that is packaged for the Cub. I was burnt on a carb rebuild kit. Same problem with the wrong threading, rubber tip. Unfortunately for me, I went ahead with the rest of the kit and substituted an old needle and the seat. Finally I bought a better kit from a smaller supplier. Next time I'll go directly to the IH-Case dealer.
