Open the side if the carb and make sure you are getting a good strong flow of fuel for more than ten seconds.
I don't believe in taking the bull by the horns. I took a goat by the horns once and that was enough excitement for me.

Sounds like a fuel restriction to me. Is the hood off and are you running on a pony tank or is your hood on? Check for any obstruction to fuel flow from the tank to the carb.
