Does the hour meter on an OEM Cub tach start keeping time as soon as the engine starts, or when it gets to a certain rpm? The '66 I got shows 326 (or 10326) hours on it.

Re: Hour meter question
The meter shows "engine hours." Basically it's counting the number of revolutions the engine has made.
At rated PTO speed, the hour meter will tick off one hour every 60 minutes. At lower RPMs, it will take up to several hours to tick off one "hour" on the meter.
All the older IH's are like this.

Re: Hour meter question
Bob, I'm glad you went after your new Cub instead of waiting. Are you sure it is 10,326 hours. If it is as nice as you say it is I'm betting it is really the 326 hours it shows. With 10,000 hours on a Cub, I would think it would be pretty whipped by now. Rusty, my '57, had only 1,390 hours on it when I got it and it had a broken crank. The fact that it sat for as long as 15 years and if the hours only accumulate hour for hour at operating speed, 300 hours could really be 600 to 1,000 hours if used alot a lower rpm's. Myself, I never run a tractor at full throttle unless that speed is needed for the job at the time.

Re: Hour meter question
Denny, We didn't get the 5-7" of snow that was predicted last week, so I picked it up on Friday. The hour meter shows 0236. I really doubt that it has turned over once, so the 236 is probably the correct number. We got about 4" of snow Christmas Eve and Day, so it'll be a few days before pictures are feasible.
