While in the process of doing some other things a question has come to mind regarding this bushing (36152DA). In going through two governors (the one from my Cub and one from a donor Cub) this bushing was removed from both. Both were stamped with the 36152DA part number, one being all bronze and the other being a shell bushing (both bushings being split). The specifications for this bushing list it as being bronze, 0.401" to 0.411" in length and after installation the ID should be 0.3745" to 0.3755". The bushing is press fit into a 0.500" diameter hole in the governor housing. Is there any reason that this bushing canot be replaced with a common off-the-shelf Oilite 0.375" x 0.500" x 0.500" bushing?
Both bushings that were removed measure out at 0.408" and 0.410" in length. This 0.090" difference in length is the only difference I can see between the original bushing and the Oilite. This would not seem to be an issue as the longer bushing would still be short of hitting the plug in the front of the housing. Buying the bushing from Case/IH costs near $22.00 while the Oilite bushing (AA521-01) is only $0.61, quite a difference in price. I am all for using original parts and shopping at the dealer, but this is more than a $20 difference. Once pressed into place and reamed to fit, I don't see a difference, does anyone have a different answer? Has anyone done this before?
I had searched back through and read previous posts on rebuilding the governor, but could find no mention of doing this. But I did find a lot of people having sticker shock at the cost of the bushing. I can't see any reason why this can't be used, and it definitly takes a nice bite out of rebuilding a governor.
Where you are, right now, is of absolutly no use unless you are able to get away from it, FAST!
I machine a lot of my own bushings because of cost, I would buy that and fit to size
I think it should work too. If the length is a problem, it's easy enough to cut it down a bit.
