battery

Postby george » Sun Dec 30, 2012 4:32 pm

Happy New Year All,
I'm sitting here in the mid Hudson Valley with 6" of snow and a dead battery on my '53 Cub. System is original 6 volt. Where might I find a new battery? Current one is Case BCM-1 - 4 years old. I confess to poor maintenance.
I'm on the bottom edge of Columbia County. I'm hibernating.
Regards,
George

NAPA or Walmart - Group 19L.

Have you tried filling the cells with distilled water and charging it?

The 19L will work, but the original size is a group 1, which is a slightly bigger battery.

Take your checkbook and your credit card, and a small paper bag so you don't hyperventilate when you see the price. :big afro:

I have never seen one fit. Around here TSC is as competitive as the rest of the places. Right now they have the cheapest locally at $69.99.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

The TRC group 1 (made by exide) will fit if you remove the rubber bumpers on the lid, I use a thickfoam/rubber material for a spacer and insulator, top fits tight with no issues

I keep an old truck inner tube (free from local tire shop) on hand to cut pieces to go between the cover and battery posts, and anywhere else it is needed.

Old mouse pads are good for this also.
