I would not want to be wrong on this, but it occurs to me that the output from the generator has to go somewhere otherwise you might do damage to it. So this begs the question - why do you want a put a 12 v battery on a 6 v Cub? Judging from your previous post, your Cub runs as it should. If it is starting problems ... then you really need to solve the issue. A 12 volt battery will not fix the underlying problem. If you don't have a warm place to chase down the problems (which are probably grounds and connections not being clean and bright bare metal), then I would suggest adding a Battery Maintainer to your tool box. Connect the battery maintainer to charge your 6v in between uses. That way your Cub will start easily in the cold.

Greg, I doubt you will do harm to the generator. In fact if you leave it hooked up the power generated will just go to the battery, just not enough to help the battery, naturally. Your other concern would be if your other components such as the coil, lights, etc are 6v they need to be disconnected to prevent burning them up.

I'm like the rest, I don't know what your aim is. If it is to get better starts, then definitely start with a good tune up.
