This morning I decided to replace the right final axle brake drum and brake band. The old one had damage done to the parts that were non repairable. (cost more to fix than replace) When I finished with the right side I decided to remove the left final and remove the grease from the brake band. The cub would stop but it took alot of preasure to do that. This is what I found.

seen plenty of those like that, hope your axle is not to beat up so a new drum can fit tight on it

And just a Sunday afternoon drive away too.
Is that final bolt hole in bad shape also ? Might need a bit more than parts while it's off.

The large hole there on the final is for the alignment pin, wich was not installed when the PO replaced the final with a newer yer casting. Its good to check thing over on your cub. You never know what you will find.

Is that a mouse nest? Had the same thing on my 49 but the po had a welder and used to weld the drum to the shaft. Took some doing but got it off. Was able to take a skim cut off the shaft and make a special brake drum to fit. I have access to a tool and die shop. Works great and was fun to do. Next owner is really going to scratch his or her head over that one.
