What are the differences between a '52 and a '47?
Quick story,
I bought what I was told is a '52, but the serial number is 6400 which makes it a '47 and that's fine. The serial number plate looks original and the really interesting thing is the engine serial number is the same shown hand written in the copy of the '47 manual in the "Manuals" section on this webpage. I know the engine likely came from a different Cub,(probably the one noted in the manual). Assuming the serial number plate is original, is it likely that the front section came from a different tractor?
Just curious.
Thanks

What is the engine serial Number? It is very possible the front had been swapped out at one time.
It is common sense to take a method and try it. If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something.

Strangely enough, it's the same number hand written in the copy of the '47 manual in the "Manuals" section.
That is quite a coincidence?!

That is the part number for the block. Most all of them have that number on them.
Do you have any cast codes? That will help a lot.

Re: What Year is my Cub??
Ok, here are a couple more numbers.....
Tractor Serial - 6400
Engine Serial - 6202
Casting (below engine) - 251341 R1
Casting (just right of clutch stop) - 351686 RL
Does that help the ID any?

The engine part number part number
vwfish wrote:Casting (just right of clutch stop) - 351686 RL
Another part number. The "L" at the end is probably a 1.
The engine serial number indicates it is from a 1947 so I would say your Cub is a 1947.
Here is a link to TM's website showing where to look for cast dates. http://www.tmtractor.com/id/castdate_loc.htm

VW,
Check out your casting codes here http://www.tmtractor.com/id/castdate_loc.htm. TM Tractor Parts has very good pics of the casting date location on major parts of the Cub.

Have a look through the links that Bill posted to get a better picture of your Cub. When you are looking, write them down and send them to me and I'll add them to the database!!
