I'm in the process of getting my 47 cub running. Original engine is stuck. It's 6V with mag. I've swapped the engine out. New engine is 12V. I plan on taking mag off stuck engine and using it. I've never used a mag before. Anything I should be aware of when I remove it from the stuck engine? I will rotate good engine to TDC on #1 before removing distributor. Stuck engine won't be TDC when I remove mag. What position should I rotate mag to before installing? Any and all advice is appreciated

Rotate the mag (backwards) until the rotor points the same way the battery ignition unit did when you removed it from the replacement engine.

Jim has the best answer. Here is a video if you run into any problems.

thomas , if you need some hands on help, i can head up there one weekend. i have two mag cubs and have been very happy with them. they are hand crank cubs ( thanks to rick spivey) . jim and bill have got you headed in the right direction. coppersmythe............................................just dont turn the mag by hand in the normal direction, rick feels like it can damage the coil if done too much

The dist. uses a smaller top stud than the Mag.

Jim and Bill - thanks! Just what I needed to know
Val - that's a very generous offer. Thanks! I'll sure holler for your help if I need it. Heck, I may holler for you anyway. Be good to see you again and talk cubs.
Dale - thanks, that is good info to know. I'll have to check it out
It will take me a bit before I tackle it. I'm waiting on a carb kit to come in. In the meantime I've got to drill out a couple of broken radiator bolts. I'll keep y'all posted

I don't know much about mags but I think you're trying to get to it from the wrong direction.....

Opinion. Since the swapped engine still has the distributor installed, I would get the engine running in good order before changing to the magneto. Probably save a whole lot of frustration.

I hear ya Scrivet! . Guess those things don't have anything to do with an electrical problem, do they? Haha

Now Eugene I hadn't even considered that. That's a right good idea. See what can happen when you ask for advice even though you already think you know what you're doing?

The magneto isn't specific to 6V. Magnetos are more like 50,000V. They generate their own electricity.

Can't argue with that! Could've used a more descriptive subject

I like lots of snow and I can handle all the mags I can lay my hands on afford-ably
