Just picked up the motor today. New pistons, rings, bearings, the whole nine yards. Want to test run it on the bench before putting it back on the tractor. Will ithurtthe hydraulic pump to run it without being hooked up. To the reservoir? Also, any recommendations on setting the. Engine unto restrung it on the bench? Recommendations. On break i, etc?thanks.....
it can be run for short periods of time with the pump connected. Just squirt some oil in the inlet of the pump . I have done it many times. The pump keeps a little oil inside because it cant pump out without oil to replace. Dont forget to prime the engine oil pump before start up.

I would wait it out until the paint job is complete. Given the coolant and oil block off plate, it's probably not worth the effort just to hear it run. Just think of the bitter sweet moment of hearing it run and looking good at the same time.
