Hi guys, From just south of CT. in the center of Long Island. We got about 28"-30" of snow to much for the cub to plow so I had to use the loader cub to dig out. oldiron29

Nice, the loader is on my list of things to do. I had to dig around the base of mine to find the tire chains.... they were quite buried in the 5 gal. bucket and I have a new appreciation for chains once installed. The first set I mounted were for 9.5 tires (I forgot that's why Cowboy gave em to me, but will come in handy on the 77 as that has 9.5s)

One very serious storm, the temps held just above or around freezing the whole time. Made the snow very wet and heavy. Surely would have been double what shows if it were all cold snow. Needless to say, the Lo Boy was a bit of an ice sculpture. As was the whole big city. We had wind gusts over 50MPH with the 'snow' sticking to everything and a lot of pine trees had a hard time of it. I looked out my window to see a tree leaning on the house.... in the morning in was down, but didn't puncture any windows.

I expected to be out of power for a long time, everything was against the electric company. Despite the nasty condition's the big city did an awesome job maintaining the roads. National Grid (that means you Wally) got the power back after about 24 hours!!! I was thrilled to no end to see the street lights on when I woke up in the middle of the night.

Really wasn't sure the Cub wanted to hear it.... but other than the governor was frozen up at the carb... it fired up the first time (always does) and I let it melt down a bit.... stuck in place! Snow/ice wedged everywhere.

And I learned another advantage of a Lo Boy.... the hood will fit under a tractor trailer. I sorta helped out over at the grocery store so a truck could get it. Under the other trailer seemed like the best place to stuff the snow. The dash is after I cleaned it up some... I left the key in (I think of Miss Janet every time I start it) and it did start right up

Fact; Anyone of our tractors can do this its a matter of how much snow you put infront of the plow. The jeep was pushing at the full width till it was up to almost 5' to 6' high. I just made right and left piles till the driveway was clean enough to drive a car on.

I started up the int154 my main machine but then left it and went with the jeep cj5 tractor with lockers in the diff's, 4 sets of tire chains with the 4 way plow. I have added weight all over it by 3/8" plate but left the mini equlid rock body off the rear yet. I gotter done but i'm missing the weight on the rear. I trippled walled the dump body subframe. Like i said in another post if i had even 4 farmall 8,3x24 tires with the extra ground height i think it would be even better. When i get the jeep finally done it will be a walk in the park clearing 3' of snow.

Fact; My jeep did the job.

There are guys here who make $$ snowplowing who won't plow my neighbors driveways. Most of the driveways here are cleared with front end loaders its that bad.

The next move up with our tractors is the surplus army duce and a half 10 wheel drive with lockers in 3 diff's with a plow. ????

Cub cadet with the snowblower.

For years now i been seeing this 3pt hitch snowblower on the side of the road i think its trying to tell me something?

BTW; At 62yo and my health not that good i was thinking of arizona or florida while plowing snow.

my neighbor opened one path with his skid steer this morning before it started stalling out. But it openaed a path for a walk to see the world. on the way we encountered a stuck pickup/snowplow in a neighbors driveway. i offered to pull him out with the DMax, and we walked back for it. no problem, yanked that Dodge right out, a fact i pointed out to him. He laughed, and offered to pay me - i told him no, it's just neighbors.

went for a ride to check out my office an d Kathryns, it was an impressive storm.

Spent the rest of the day rebuilding the transmission on the "B" in my shop. pictures to follow if my puter will co-operate.

i hope everyone is good in the area, but if you need something, holler.

oh, and the skidsteer - it has the typical problem of the black slime in the filter. you have to use a little BioKleen in the tank every once in a while due to the low sulfer content of the fuel we are getting.

Just got power and internet back, at 6 pm. Danged generators, sure like to drink! cost me $ 50.00 for fuel, for intermittent use! 18 inches of snow, best I can tell. Lots of drifting. Icy base, made plowing it, interesting! Did minimum, yesterday. 35 degrees, and sunny today, made going much better. Ed

Glad to hear you guys made it through OK....and that most have power. I couldn't imagine having to deal with that much snow. Although it would be fun for a while. Good luck digging out guys!

Nice. These are later model cubs with more horsepower than mine. How did it handle in 24" + of snow?
I use mine every year for snow removal only. Have to wind it up in 1st to do the job.
Was light and fluffy up here in MA so I can say I was surprised this time...it performed excellent and seemed to be in its
natural habitat.

Not a happy camper in Massachusetts. My brother says I should be having fun. I am cold and sore from shoveling and snow throwing wet snow. When the storm hit and knocked out power the only heat I had was out in the Cubhouse, well 80 mph winds took care of the insulated stove pipe knocking that off the roof. So on Saturday morning early I got a ladder and climbed out onto the roof to fix the stove pipe and get a fire going. I was really nervous climbing an icy ladder onto the roof. As some of you know I fell a few months ago off a roof and broke my arm and hand in 20 places. I got the stove pipe in place and snapped a picture from the roof of the Cub House.


I have had no power since Friday and estimates are no power until this Friday. Saturday night temps hit 12 degrees and finally it has warmed up and is raining. Another storm is headed our way and I seriously doubt I will have power for another week. OUr electtric company got fined for not dealing with the last storm properly. All weekend long I did not see one utility truck. This is demoralizing when 3 days go by and the road hasn't been plowed and not a single (f)utility truck is in sight. All but one of the families in the neighborhood is still here. The others fled. I can't imagine being elderly with no heat, horrible winds, lightning and trees dropping left and right and not having any contact with anyone. Glad I am younger and don't mind hardship...am at work warming up. Hope those effected are hanging tough. Spring is just around the corner.
