I know this is probably a dumb question, but is there a year or serial # breakdown of what years the square hood cubs were painted red? Thanks.

In general, all Cubs through early 1964, the factory "standard" color was red. In 1964, the factory "standard" color was switched to yellow/white, to follow the Cub Cadet series tractors released that year. At this point in time, red was an optional color, and many folks have found all red tractors from the 1964 to 1978 time period. In 1979, knowing that the Cub production was ending (and subsequently IH was going out of business), the standard color was switched back to Red, as was the Cub Cadet *82 series tractors released at that time. Again, in 1979 you could order yellow/white as an option, and many folks have found yellow/white 1979 tractors. So, if you let us know the serial number or year we may be able to give you some more specific information.

Thanks guys. I guess that is what I was looking for in that any year after 64 Red could have been an option. I am looking at one, but do not know the year or serial number at this time to confirm. I guess I like the looks of the red square hoods better, but am also a stickler for being correct.

Yes, any of the square nosed cubs could be red. Seems that 1964, and 77, 78, and 79 are the most often found in red. 1965 through 1976 most often seem to be yellow/white, but there are a few red ones around. Also, several folks have found municipal tractors that were painted all yellow too. May be that the one you're looking at was an all yellow one, and someone painted it red later.

It looks just like the one cubguy47 linked. Thats what I was wondering too, if there was a definate serial number or someone painted over the yellow. Guess I need the serial number!

If it is a 63 it should also say Farmall Cub on the hood and not International, unless somebody did a swap.

Yes, definitely look closely for signs of a repaint when you see it in person.
