I was looking at my coulters today and see that there is a difference on the bracket. I have 2 that are shaped one way and 2 that are shaped the other, the strange thing is that it does not follow the plow side (left/right). So can someone answer which one goes with left and which with right plow??
I was looking at the 189 plow manual and it only shows "Coulter Bracket" 515797R1.
Also, I have 2 that are smooth discs and 2 that are scalloped, what is best for what conditions?

Re: Coulter question???
Doug,
Can't help you out with the brackets, however, the coulters are a different story. Generally notched coulters are useful when plowing trash (another name for heavy crop residue like corn stalks) because the notches tend to cut the trash more effectively. Smooth coulters will push the trash, rather than cutting it, causing the plow to plug. Hope this helps.

Re: Coulter question???
There are left and right brackets for the 189 plow. Which reminds me I promised to look for one for someone on the forum. I'll have to do it first thing tomorrow as I have already had my first glass of dinner wine and I am not climbing into the attic now! I can post the part number then too as it is written on the part.

Re: Coulter question???
This is a top view of each of the brackets, you can see the offset is opposite, but both of these pictures are of right hand plows. I had the first set for a couple of years before I realized that they were exactly the same on both plows of that set.

Re: Coulter question???
Thanks Bill, for the disc answer.
Thanks Bob in CT, I'll look for a part number on the brackets and get this situation straightened out.

Re: Coulter question???
Right one chould be clear from the first page here. It matches your second picture. The correct one may be more obvious from the second page, which shows the mounting for the combination jointer. Your second one appears to have a jointer installed.
