That is the question.
Whether tis nobler to put the hood back on with the original wiring harness, or to take the hit in the wallet and replace with a new harness from AgriServices, and by doing so eliminate the need to take the hood off again entirely...
The original harness is in okay condition, really. Just a couple of spots where the cloth wrap is frayed. Really would be a shame to get rid of an almost completely intact original harness...

If it matches the rest of the tractor I'd leave it be. If you buy a new harness, you can sell the old one.

lots of talk about wiring, it takes all of an hour or 2 to make one
and for very little $$$

If your harness if original then I would be keeping it on your Cub. If you are going to upgrade -- as Boss said, it only takes a few hours to build one and it is decidedly cheaper than buying a prefab. Course this is simply JIMHO.

When I just redid the 51, I thought the harness was in bad shape. I started peeling off the cloth wrap and found that it was just the outer "wrap" that was bad, and the original wires were in good shape. I had a few up by the generator, headlights, coil, etc. that needed to be replaced. So, I made up replacements, but bought new heat shrink wrap to re-wrap the whole harness. Did the small wires first, then re-wrapped the whole thing back to the dash. It was a bit of work, and took me the better part of a day, but it sure turned out nice, and I don't have to worry about the wires decaying any more.

I enjoy making up the harnesses. If you want to work with what you have I would suggest just slicing off the cloth loom and replace with a product like this http://www.narragansettreproductions.co ... ubing.html
The harnesses I have made I use the black loom. It is similar to a Chinese finger. It will expand to fit the conductors but as you pull it it will tighten up on the harness. Cheep fix. You will have a very nice product if you buy the individual conductors with the proper color and cloth cover, solder on the terminal ends and then use the black loom. Like the other guys said it is not time consuming to build one.
