Hi All, there is a tag screwed into the casting right in front of the clutch pedal. It's stamped 12 31 0. My Cub serial number is 21005, which means it was mfg. after July of 1948. Does this tag mean that is the actual date of manufacture?

Re: Date of Mfg. Tag?Ken, could that casting code actually be ending in a "Q? Sometimes they are hard to read with years of paint buildup.
The casting code indicated when that particular component was made, not every code will match on the tractor all of the time and some could have been made at some point in the year previous, ie 1947 in this case. I have been collecting, buying, and selling Farmall Cub tractors, implements, and parts for nearly 11 years.
Re: Date of Mfg. Tag?Or the original casting could have been replaced years later with an "O" year part.

Thanks again,

Re: Date of Mfg. Tag?Rudi, I went back out the garage checked it again and sure enough it is cast right into the bell housing. With a serial number of 21005, I'd sure love to know which decal set to purchase. From what I understand before July of 1948 there was a circular Cub logo on the cowling. This has never been there since we purchased it in the 1960's. Any idea how to tell which decal set would be the original?
Best regards, Ken
Re: Date of Mfg. Tag?Ken:
It won't be a Circle Cub that's for sure. So the McCormick-Deering Farmall Cub set would be correct for a '47 and '48. It changed in Sept of '49. Have a look at the decals on TM Tractor - Decals page 4 item # DE60 is one choice. Both my '47 and '48 will wear this decal, my '50 will wear the next rendition. Re: Date of Mfg. Tag?
Ken, Rudi's link has good info, but keep in mind the "circle cub" decal that you made mention of does not apply to your 1948 model, it was intended only for the early 1947 models. I have been collecting, buying, and selling Farmall Cub tractors, implements, and parts for nearly 11 years.
Re: Date of Mfg. Tag?Thank you for the reply. I'll get the right set ordered when it's time. Right now we're getting ready to disassemble the final drives. All the seals there are just rubbish.
