Looking good but I think you may have accidentally flipped your notes diagram around on how these parts go back together.

Rex '48 radiator. At NE CubFest the neck will be soldered back on along with the overflow tube which is painted and curing. This was painted with Eastwood Flat Black Radiator Paint. It is perhaps the thinnest spray paint I have ever used. Very fast to dry, Nice Product.

Made a lot of mistakes on this tractor:D - In this case I did not paint the top anywhere near the neck to be soldered. Score one!

One less piece no longer being stored around the shop. Front rock shaft installed. Small amount of paint touch up now that it's installed - Promised my son - I'd wait till his Harley is out of my shop before I did so :D .

Your radiator looks great! Was it rebuilt? If so, what was the "ballpark" cost? I have a radiator I want rebuilt, but the prices I have seen posted in the past are a bit un-nerving. Your restoration of Rex has been enjoyable to follow! :D

The radiator was not rebuilt. I painstakingly straightened all the fins. Carefully washed the entire thing, scrubbed it all with a paste for cleaning copper and brass. I clear coated the patent label, then lightly primed the radiator then used East Wood Radiator paint.

Thanks for reading my posts and taking the time to comment.

Rex '48 receives his newly painted flat belt pulley. This is going to be safely used without freestanding late 1800's saw that was actually cast very near our farm in a Guilderland, NY foundry.

Re: My Restoration of Rex '48 - #21005

Bit of disappointment today. I was organizing parts, when I pulled out the manifold that I worked so long and hard on. I meticulously sand blasted and cleaned it and after reading a restoration thread herein, I used Fire Seal 2000 and Por 20 to fill all the pitting, painting it with the POR 20. I followed all the instructions to the letter, so I can't understand what went wrong. This included baking it in my wife's oven for the prescribed period of time and temperature.

The aluminum paint peeled. The Fire Seal is flaking off. An experiment gone wrong somehow.

It's been in the blasting cabinet again. Now it will get straight High Temp Paint and Primer.
It looked nice for a while. It will look better soon, like tomorrow morning, if not tonight.

Ken

Ken,
I've had great luck with the POR-15 - Black Velvet paint on the mainfolds. It really does look nice, covers great and lasts forever without turning colors. Also, It's thick enough that you can fill imperfections, sand, and apply another coat, to really smooth things out if you want. I typically don't, as I like the rough look on the mainfold.

Here is one of the results from the NE CubFest - thanks to Cecil Rex '48 now has the proper spring attachment for the manual lift. I made the bushing per the dimensions provided by members of this forum. I purchased the bracket on the forum that had been a chain for as long as I can recall. I did do such a fine welding job on the lever that I had to file a few thousands out so it would move to the different detentes. Finally back together and original.

Thanks Cecil.
