Dash Repair

Postby PVF1799 » Tue Jul 30, 2013 10:25 am

Finally got my O2 tank filled so I could braze this part. Now it can go back into the blasting cabinet for a final cleaning - then a small amount of filler in some spots that I know will annoy me if I don't fix them. All the cracks were drilled at the end before brazing.

Ken

Rex '48 has New Fenders

Postby PVF1799 » Thu Aug 01, 2013 7:55 am

Hi all - Little update on Rex '48.

Learned body filler and more working on these. Had them finish coated once, but was not happy with the result - so I broke out the 400 grit paper on the DA Sander - Fixed the finish and repainted. Now I'm OK with showing the pix.

Turned out nice! I love the Farmall Red. I have a 1990 F250 that I want to repaint in the future. I have been working on my wife to repaint it Farmall Red. She is not totally opposed, yet not quite there to totally agree yet either. (She likes the truck too) I will keep working it.
Lovin' IH for over a decade.

Great job on the fender(s). That is going to be one nice tractor when you are done with it.

Ken, the fender looks nice. The next time you refinish a set of fenders or a hood Assy, try wet sanding prior to painting with 400 to 600 grit paper when you're through with the D/A sander. This will remove those fine scratches and swirl marks left by an air sander. It requires a bit more time and clean up prior to painting, but, I've found it worth the extra effort. Hope this helps with future restorations. Papa.

Yes that really is well done. Maybe you've already said but are you using rattle can or spray gun? Painting outdoors or in a booth?

So far all the paint has been rattle cans 2 coats of primer - two coats of paint. All outside, then moved inside...

Thanks for the compliments.
