Farmall Cub

Hi yall,
here in south central Pennsylvania, we have got some moderate to heavy clay soil, i have been having issue with plowing. to make it go deeper than 3ins. (6-8" is preferable) i have to have another person stand on the back of the plow just to get it to go deeper. i was thinking it may be an adjustment issue (which i can take care of with no problem) but i was wondering also if a dull share might have something to do with it. Do any of yall know how to sharpen one or if new ones are available?

And yes you can get shares from Agra Supply. Can't remember the part # but I will look to see because I got one from them for my plow.

Good Morning. A dull plow shear requires even more precise setup. I missed in your post if this was a quick-hitch plow - if it's not then I recall Dad using the front right hand lever to adjust the depth, in combo with the left lever - we did not have the luxury of hydraulics.

Great post. I enjoyed the info which answered a lot of questions I had after plowing (if you want to call it that) last fall. I need to tweak my rig and it looks like new parts will be the first item on the list. Looking at the pictures mine are well beyond the point of no return.

Last I checked (over a year ago) the 12 inch Plow Chief share, 515714R5, was NLA from Agri Supply. It is available from CaseIH for $54.

There are a couple of possibilities, starting with a worn out share/point. Depth lever not adjusted properly is another. Pics of the mounted plow and also in the field/garden would really help identify the cause(s) of your problem. Shoot some pics and I can be of more help.

My experience with the 193 plow is that it's pretty fussy about the condition of the point. As plows go, it's not very heavy so if the point is worn very much, the only way to get it into the ground is with a little weight assistance. Shoot some pics for Bill and he'll give you excellent guidance.

My father's land had lots of small stones, that kept the plow, from sinking. We stood on it, to get some depth. He refused to remove the coulter which couldn't sink in, because of the stones. I think that was a big part of the problem. Ed
