thats not much fun to redo if done recently. was a impact used to install the clutch ? one broken , maybe , but thats a lot busted off . coppersmythe....................................

That's the way I got it. I knew it had clutch problems. I just I hope I can get the broken bolts out of the flywheel. I wouldn't think they're bottomed out. My bad back could only handle 2 hours of work today or I would have done more disassembly. Rear main seal and oil pump gasket while I'm in there. Rear main leaks for sure.
I'll probably get back to it Monday

That has to be the understatement of the day after looking at the pictures
. Good luck with it when you get "back" at it. Hopefully it will only require a little attention to get it where you can just replace the broken bolts and missing nuts. I think I would go ahead and replace them all as insurance.

I bought a new clutch, PP and TO bearing from TM 2 months a go, and a pilot bushing, so I should be in good shape.

If you have anyone close that sells used cub parts, a flywheel is probably pretty cheap since there is very little call for them.

Unless someone really buggered them up, the broken bolts will likely come out pretty easy. They were probably overtightened, causing the breakage. Replace them all, the others may not be far behind. After installing the new clutch to the flywheel, carefully adjust the finger height and make sure the lock nuts are secure, that obviously was overlooked the last time.

I'm sure you know this, but just a reminder to do all the adjusting while it's still split.

Thanks for the tips Denny and Gary. Would it be wrong to get grade 8 bolts for the pressure plate? I don't use air tools for assembly, but I think the bolts were maybe grade 5 at best. Also, my TC-37A parts manual doesn't show the PP bolts. Should I use lock washers, thread lock, or both on the pp bolts?
I think whoever put this clutch in never did a Cub before. The fingers were not adjusted at all. If it wasn't for this forum and a service manual I probably would have done the same--just like a car. Bolt it on and go.

Just lock washers, new grade 5 or 8 bolts.
I wouldn't replace the oil pump gasket if the gasket is not leaking.
Since you have to remove the flywheel, you can adjust the pressure plate finger height to less than .001" variance. Several methods have been previously discussed. My method is to install the pressure plate with disk on the flywheel. Drill press with upside down drill bit installed. Set one finger to desired height. Feeler gauge between end of drill bit and adjusted finger. Lock down quill. Set remaining fingers.
Put old pressure plate and disk on shelf. Appears to be in good shape and easily repaired.

I got some disassembly done today, I got the flywheel off and the broken bolts wont budge. Lucky for me Dale Finch came through with a good one she is sending to me "on my word". Thanks Dale!! I got a new rear main seal in, new pilot bushing, and started working on the governor. The linkage the top of the spring hooks to is frozen. Inside the gov looks great. Again, 2 hours is all my back could handle so I knocked off for the day.
I was dreading getting the pilot bushing out, but I stuck my finger in it and pulled it right out! The new one had to be driven in though.

I had the same dread/concern when I replace my clutch and was going to replace the pilot bushing. I had a plan on how to pull it out but like you, mine came out with a finger pulling it out. I was quite surprised.
