Like somebody said, it's what ever the owner likes. As for me, the best tractors have mud or manure on the tires, grease on the fittings, and a dusty hood, because it's kept inside when it's not at work.

an alternate thought is high temp ceramic powdercoat,
specifically what some applicators call "near chrome".

i've used it on several of my motorcycle projects....
fuel tank, cylinders, heads, headers, etc.

when buffed looks like nickel plate or lightly polished
aluminum. one benefit is it cuts down radiated heat
considerably, even more if the powdercoater can get
any on the inside of the manifold/pipe.

do a couple other motor parts in the batch and spread
the bling out. as you can see in that stainless cub,
shiny bits next to red is a show stopper.

If I could do more than just the manifold & was gonna show it, not work it, yes. I don't think it would look right with just the manifold & muffler chromed & not other pieces as well to even out the look. I love the way the tricked out Cub looks, myself. I'd like to see that dual carb setup run, too!

Powder coat the manifold and chrome stack and muffler would be my choice.

I used silver rattle can header paint on one, but haven't gotten around to putting it on the Cub yet (it's way down the list of things to do). So not sure how well it would hold up.

I will say one thing, when I looked at a line of Cubs at Cecil's fest I was most disappointed that Cathy (my shiny 50 Cub) looked like all the other shiny ones.

I am going to prep and paint the frame on my truck and found this company, KBS, that makes a POR-15 like product, it comes in several colors. They also make a high temp paint.

I resisted a temptation to paint the frame red.... Film at 11 on how well the flat black works. Gotta get the bed of the truck first

I spoke to the other Larry at RPRU about his 'Chrome Cub'. Pretty cool, he does it a piece at a time, I think he is running out of parts to make from stainless.

I talked with him at one of the Cubaramas a while back, and most of that is polished aluminum, though it sure looks like stainless. If I remember correctly the exhaust system is the only thing that is actually made of stainless.

I have to go with Frederick and others and say that if it were me I would powder coat the manifold and muffler. I have recently fallen in love with powder coating.....I have been powder coating everything in sight. .....I am going to do my manifold and muffler eventually. I haven't decided whether to go with flat black manifold and chrome muffler or flat black for both.

But like others have said......it's your tractor.....have fun do what you like.

Powder Coating is actually very easy and economical...and the results are amazing....I have several examples of what I have PC'd in the post above.

I had my manifold powder coated balck...I like the look and it's holding up very well.

Personally, I don't even like to see shiny paint on a tractor. It just doesn't look natural.

Alan I'll take it then you like it au'natural <sp>. This is the Cub we are now redoing. It's likely to be shiny when it's done. Thanks to everyone for this great conversation. More confused than ever - but we'll get'er sorted and post pix.

I would go with the traditional scheme of the manifold like you said you were leaning towards, and then I'd get a chrome exhaust stack/pipe for it!
