This came off of a 1949. It was purchased brand new by my great grandfather. We've never owned anything horse drawn.

The pictured grass board is correct for '47-'49. After that, they would have said McCormick (if anything).

My 48 says McCormick Deering, back in the days when we used these I would go through about a dozen of the boards a season, every time I hit a mouse nest the mower would plug up and I would have to back up to clear the plug while backing up I would break the board, sure was glad when the steele rods came out. Don't know if anyone ever tried mowing hay without the use of a swathboard or not but it is a real pain,

Gonna have to explain that one a little more for me. The sickle mower cuts a swath and the grassboard only effects that last few inches of cut grass. Maybe it's another one of those regional/different names for things, but I don't understand how that's a windrow unless you're baling the swath???????
