FWIW - I shut off the fuel and let the engine starve. Gasoline leaves an awful mess behind when it evaporates so an empty carb is less likely to accumulate as much varnish as a full one. And with the price of fuel, it is cheap insurance against draining a tank of gas on the ground.

Good advice! The 10% alcohol in the gas magnifies the problem about 10 times.

Put the kohler needle and seat in 8 or 9 years ago, very satisfied.

FWIW, I again agree wholeheartedly with Carl. I always let Ellie run out of gas - close the valve and let her die.
With the ball valve installed, I have not had any leak issues at all. I changed over to the ball valve simply for ease for me - I have bad nerve pain and neuropathy so the typical stopcocks or shut-off valves are just too painful/difficult for me to operate. This is what I have done to keep my fuel circuit clean and to ensure I don't have leaks -
