Anyone running a RM42 mower?

I have been tinkering with a RM 42 I got a few months ago. It seems there is a vibration when using it. Is that normal maybe from the drive shaft being on an angle to the pto? Gear box is tight and the blades are straight. I think it has to be in the shaft. Anyone with experience with these??

Chris, I don't have an RM42 to run, but there is sometimes a problem when using a shaft with ujoints. The ujoints must be in phase or it can cause some excesive vibration. On the long part of the shaft the joint at each end has to be in the same plane. (You may be able to google ujoint phasing.) Good luck ...Frank

There are two different Woods fast hitch 42's. The 42F and the RM42 was a later version. The RM42 can be used as a 3 point mower too, so it has an 'adapter' for Fast Hitch Cubs.

Regardless of what you have, a vibration should be corrected. It can be a bearing or the blades being out of balance. Or the PTO phase as CubFriend says.

Blade 'balance' can be tricky, but essentially they need to be the same weight and shape. Always replaced or sharpened in pairs. Not precise, but I have hung blades on a bungee to get a rough idea of weight.

After replacing a worn u joint on the shaft a lot of vibration is gone. There is still a slight bit though believed to be the safety cover over the pto shaft. Anybody have any recommendations for that other than removing the cover from the shaft?
