Truss Head SS Bolts & Galvanic Action?

Postby PVF1799 » Fri Apr 26, 2013 9:53 pm

Hi all, TM and others are selling SS truss head bolts for the grill. After the fight I had getting little 1/4" bolts out I can see why. Does the mixing of SS into the steel nuts and into the cast iron bolster lead to galvanic action between the two metals, doing more harm than good?

I've seen it with other metals, but unsure if SS does the same thing.

I don't think you'll have any issues there. Now if you were engaging a SS screw into a SS nut, you might have a problem. In that case often times you will get galling and you'll never get them apart unless you use Anti-Seize on the threads. If you have any concerns, dab a little Anti-Seize on the threads. It can't hurt, but I don't think you'll need it.
