Broke off 5 bolts taking off the radiator..NO problem..heated them up and used vice grips..all came rite out...Nice...Then ran a tap into all the holes to clean the threads. noticed that several of the housings did not look good..NOT the ones that had the bolts break off...as I ran the tap in..the housing just crumbled away...I was planning to use anti-sieze on the new bolts anyway...will this seal??? any one else run into this...Thanks...Tom

I had a few of mine break away too but I permatex'd the heck out of the bolts, let it dry good before putting the radiator on and I have never had any issues with leaks.

Here is what I have used in the past. Clean the area very good with a wire wheel on a drill. Clean the bolt the same way. Then clean the area and bolt with carburetor cleaner and use compressed air blow out the excess and dry it out. Next, use Q-tips (you will use quite a few) and rubbing alcohol to clean the bolt threads, area, and bolster threads until there is no dirt that shows on the Q-tips. Then take a traditional car wax and wax the threads on the "bolt" only. Hand tighten the bolt into the bolster threads until it reaches the end. You may then mix up the traditional slow cure J-B Weld and repair the area. Please allow it to cure completely 24 hours etc. The car wax will keep the bolt from sticking to the J-B Weld while copying the threads. You may need to take a wrench to break it loose but it will back straight out. This process may be used to repair the drain plug in the bolster as well as many other applications. Hope this helps.

By the witnessed actions of Jeff and Raymond "Clean Means Clean" I never saw so much cleaning, but man they do good work and a pleasure to "watch" and visit with. They getter clean.

Looks to me like those broke out because somebody didn't keep/get the holes clean and broke them out while tightening the bolts. It looks to me like you have several good threads in the upper part of each hole before you get to the part that is broken out. If so, you still have all the strength you need. Put good thread sealer on each bolt and you will be OK. It is no worse a situation than the head bolts that open into the cooling system.

If you are short on good threads. or if you just want to reclose the bottoms of the holes, Jeff's method will work well. When you use that method, get some longer (and brand new) bolts to use when making the repair. Be sure to go back to original length bolts when you install the radiator.

I recommend using stainless steel bolts.
