Hello: I have a complete belt pulley and I am having a hard time getting it to slip onto the PTO shaft. Shaft has been cleaned, is there a simple trick to putting it on ?

It should slide right on. Does it have a tapered hub like in this video?

If you are referring to a right angle belt pulley, it should just slide on the existing PTO shaft. The video is for installation of a mower drive pulley (not the same).

I know when mine comes on and off it is a very precision slip fit on the splines, and then the gearbox housing slips over the round bearing cap on the back of the tractor. I used to use the bolts to pull mine the last bit over that round cap. maybe you don't have the shaft as clean as you think you do. that would be my guess.

Check the ends of the splines for any little burrs. It doesn't take much to keep it from sliding in.

A little cleanup of the splines with a file works wonders.
